Information about this photo:

Oliver Kanode Brown (1850-1914), known as “OK”, was the son of Rudolph Brown and Lucinda Ann Murphy; grandson of Abraham Brown and Mary Jennings of Browntown. In 1877 he married Annie Regina Murphy (1852-1940). They then established a farm between Browntown and Bentonville on the land now occupied by the county landfill. We know little about OK Brown. He was a farmer, or perhaps better said, a farm owner. He is said to have been a gentle man, well read, who always presented himself well, and enjoyed intelligent conversation.

Their first home burned to the ground. The framework of the second Brown home and springhouse at the farm still stands. Oliver, Annie, their son Wayne, and Oliver’s parents, Rudolph and Lucinda Murphy Brown, are buried at the Brown family cemetery on the farm (now privately owned) adjacent to the landfill. All the other children are buried together at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Front Royal.
