This beautiful Queen Anne-influenced Gothic Revival church was built for the Ebenezer Evangelical Lutheran Church congregation in 1897 under the leadership of Mr. F. P. Cover, proprietor of the Browntown Tannery.
The photo shows the four-story bell tower, which stands at the front southwest corner of the church, outlined against the morning mist.
In 1943 the Baptists bought this church building from the Lutherans.
Sixteen members of Browntown Baptist Church gathered to approve the purchase. The building was used as is for 10 years. The building that housed the bar room was sold. Renovations were made in 1953 that included a basement with five rooms for Sunday School.
This photo was taken in December 1963. It shows what the original church building looked like before a two-story addition was built at the back of the church. This added much needed amenities, including restrooms, office space, a choir area, a dining section, and more classroom space.
